of which
34% are back after serving one sentence.
Over 75% have been convicted of four types of crime
46% are convicted of drug offenses–
18% for weapons, explosives, and arson crimes–
10% for sex crimes–and…
6% for immigration offenses.
The smallest number of prisoners (55 total) have been convicted of crimes relating to national security.
In 2018, 37,820 inmates were released from federal prisons.
