Americans toss out about 600 pieces of clothing during their lives

or about 10 items per year

because of color issues, damage, and shrinkage.

A large part of this is can be attributed to the fact that

43% rarely or never read the care instructions on their clothes prior to doing the laundry

and

21% never or rarely follow the instructions on the tag.

29% report almost never using spot treatments to clean clothing after a spill.

No wonder so much clothing gets thrown away.
